GoRules started in 2023 out of frustration with the rules engines we had to work with. Legacy platforms were closed, heavyweight, and locked to a single stack. Every project began with a license negotiation and ended with a consulting engagement - and the people who actually owned the rules still couldn't read them.
So we built the engine we wished existed. Zen Engine went open source under MIT in 2023: a decision engine written in Rust, embeddable in nine languages, fast enough to sit in the hot path. Not a wrapper around someone else's API - your rules run inside your own infrastructure, whether that's a bank's data center or a serverless function.
That is what democratization means to us: rules readable by the analysts who own them and the engineers who run them, on an engine anyone can adopt without asking permission. And as software shifts toward agents, the same idea carries forward - AI needs a decision layer that is deterministic, auditable, and under your control. GoRules is that layer.
